The world we assume to be our reality is, in fact, more fictive than we could or would ever imagine. People live in a notional world, created by mass media and mass education, which leads to identity crisis of soul. This world of appearances in its essence is absurd, strange and inacceptable to a human being; therefore it is hard, almost impossible, to find harmony, happiness or equilibrium.
Janette Winterson unveils that money culture, consumer society and streamlined homogeneity is our imposed reality which we generally accept without doubt. This ‘reality’ makes us to believe that the point of our living is to make more money and buy more stuff and, what’s more, it actually makes us believe that it can and will make us happy and pleased with our lives. The truth is that this synthetic and fictive thing, which is sold to us as happiness, can not bring peace to our irritated minds and we keep fidget as if there was grains of sand in our perfectly fitted and perfumed silken underwear.
It is not easy to find energy to fight back and strive for something real, because the rest of the society forces us to fit in the credulous and passive existence.…
