On December 16, they boarded the ships and dumped the tea in Boston Harbor.
As a result of the Boston Tea Party, the British passed a series of laws called the Coercive Acts, which were also known as the Intolerable Acts. "Under these laws, more soldiers were sent to Massachusetts, Boston's port was closed, General Thomas Gage was made Governor, and the Massachusetts charter was rewritten." (Olseky pg. 56) The new soldiers were sent to enforce the laws. Colonists throughout all of the colonies had had enough with British rule, and started conventions, such as the Continental Congress, that would eventually play a big role in the fight for their freedom.
