After the animals had overthrown Mr. Jones, in the novel Animal Farm, a group of animals immediately gained power among the new citizens of the farm. The pigs were the fortunate ones; they had more privileges than the rest of the animals. At the beginning of this new society, there was one pig that was highlighted the most, Snowball. Snowball reflects the historical figure Lev Davidovich Bronstein (1879-1940), known as Leon Trotsky, from the Russian Revolution.
Snowball was one of the organizers of Animal Farm after the revolution was held. He was the most intelligent and best writer of all the animals. ''Then Snowball (for it was Snowball who was best at writing) took a brush (...) painted out Manor Farm (...) and in its place painted Animal Farm.'' (Orwell, 43) …
