Since December 1997 – The Historic Centre of Riga – was inscribed on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List. This may not have much impact on our daily life, but it should at least give us a reason to feel pride! It is in the greatest interest of humankind that The Historic Centre of Riga with its structure, individual buildings and details is preserved for future generations.
By December 1997 five hundred and six natural and cultural sites all over the world are inscribed on this list. The Historic Centre of Riga is in good company with the Pyramids of Egypt, Taj Mahal in India, The Grand Canyon in USA, the city of Visby in Sweden and many others.
