The Hearst Castle is a home so big that it took 32 years to complete! The home has 165 rooms built on 165,000 acres of ranchland. This architectural masterpiece also has two pools, three guest houses and a zoo.
The Hearst Castle is located in San Simeon, California, near the Santa Lucia Mountains. The Hearst Castle overlooks the Pacific Ocean and San Simeon Bay. Its nickname is ''The Enchanted Hill,'' and is now a historical monument.
George Hearst
George Hearst, the founder of the Hearst Castle, was born in 1820 in Franklin County, Missouri. The local Indians called George "boy that the earth talked to", probably because he had such good knowledge of mining. In Missouri he was supplied with little formal education, and I find this amazing that he became so smart.
