There is no single group or cause to blame for the division of Korea and there are no clear-cut consequences of the division. The division itself, political factionalism among Korean parties and the rivalry between the USA and USSR were all initial factors in the Korean divide, but later contested legitimacy and entrenched differences which were caused by division itself became more important. The division had a negative affect on the politics of both Korea's as a catalyst for authoritarianism. Initially it also had mostly negative affects on the economies of both nations and later in developing different ideologies for development. Finally the culture of the two Korea's was formed under the influence of division and this affected not only the political cultures of the two Korea's, as will have already been discussed, but also the attitude of Korean's toward the military and in regard to foreign affairs.…
