The International Whaling Commission (IWC) was established in 1946 under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling and is an inter-governmental Commission, which is responsible for proper enhancement of whale stocks and systematic development of the whaling industry1.
Its main duty is to keep under the review and to revise as necessary the measures laid down in the schedule of convention, which governs the conduct of whaling throughout the world.
