Today the United States is in the spotlight for soon it will undergo very important changes in its politics. In the U.S. presidential election the new President of the United States will be selected. Since it is a very important event for Americans, it also arouses interest of people outside the United States. For that reason, I decided to look into varieties of American English.
Of all the regions of the United States the South is the most distinct, in both the minds of its residents and those in other parts of the country. Because of the central role of agriculture in the economy of the period before the American Civil War, society remained stratified according to land ownership. Rural communities often developed strong attachment to their churches as the primary community institution. The southern lifestyle, especially in the cultural and geographic sub-regions in the American South, is often joked about. Southerners are often viewed as more laid back, and relaxed even in stressed situations. That, of course, is a stereotype, and not always the case. Traditionally, the southern lifestyle is viewed as slower paced in more areas that are rural. Southerners are also stereotyped as being resistant to change, especially in social circles. Southerners are also described as polite and well-mannered, and particularly welcoming to visitors; this characteristic has been labeled Southern hospitality.…
