Increasingly violent crimes committed by gang members and the use of imprisonment and longer sentences to control them, suggest more gang members will fill prison cells in the future. As a result of their imprisonment, gang members from different cities within the same state will have an opportunity to meet. If they are of the same race or ethnicity, they may join forces with gangs they would never have had the chance to meet with on the street. Also, what happens when they return to the streets? Will they bring their new alliances to the gangs from which they were taken when arrested?…
