Uli Edel, the film director, shot Mists of Avalon (2001) after a novel written by Marion Zimmer Bradley (1983) (Mathis, 2008 [online]). As the summary of the plot says, Christianity is spreading and the Saxons are invading ancient England and Viviane – Lady of the Lake and high priestess of the kingdom’s ancient pagan religion – has to try to prevent the turning down of the old faith and thereby banish the barbarian hordes. She has her own means for political purposes. As Viviane considers necessary to make sure the next king will honour both the old and new faiths, she arranges her sister Igraine’s and King Uther Pendragon’s marriage, the result of which is their son, Arthur. …
