Uli Edel, the film director, shot Mists of Avalon (2001) after a novel written by Marion Zimmer Bradley (1983) (Mathis, 2008 [online]). As the summary of the plot says, Christianity is spreading and the Saxons are invading ancient England and Viviane – Lady of the Lake and high priestess of the kingdom’s ancient pagan religion – has to try to prevent the turning down of the old faith and thereby banish the barbarian hordes. She has her own means for political purposes.
