Understanding the reasons that underpin mass migrations will clearly be essential in the future to ensure that any land use that does occur is compatible with conservation objectives and will not impinge upon the habitat range of migrating wildebeest, zebra and gazelle (Berger, 2004). Those seeking to conserve the Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem must understand these mass cyclical migrations, why they occur and also the extent to which these species are dependent on each other for survival (Kahuranga & Silkiluwasha, 1997).
