. There are certain messages that I want the audience to hear loud and clearly and others that I want them to only subtly sense. I'm sure Wilson went through many rewrites keeping this in mind, and I will have to do the same so as not to overwhelm my audience with moral questions. There are only so many ideals that can be fit into one play, and I don't want to try to cover too much ground in my first attempt. Another thing that Wilson did well was have the inciting incidents of the past come out through the dialogue and the narration. I won't be having a narrator in my play, so I need to find clever and discreet ways for the past to come out of the mouths of my characters. I like that he didn't use his narrator as a crutch like I've seen so many times before. I want to avoid using any of my characters as a crutch to tell the whole story of the past that led us up to the point where the play begins. I will have to think carefully about what needs to be said about the past and how I want that to come naturally through dialogue. I had considered using a narrator, but didn't want to lean on it too much. When the first complete draft of my play is finished and it appears as though a narrator would be useful, I will add one at that time.…
