The organizational culture at SWA is characterized by good employee-management relations. Some have called the said the management structure was an inverted pyramid with the company being run by its employees. Employees at all levels think of the company as a family and feel personally
involved, responsible, and motivated. SWA applies the concept that an employee becomes more motivated when they are given challenging work in which they can assume responsibility. The company values its employees ahead of its customers only because to make flying fun for its customers, it must make its employees' jobs fun first. Such concern is expressed by the company for its employees that some have indicated the corporate mission statement should be "Ask not what your employees can do for you, but what you can do for your employees."
