An example would be presenting students with the knowledge of a poverty-stricken area and then, as a class project, devise ways to improve the area. The students would then actually make those ideas realities.
My personal teaching philosophy can best be described as being in an early stage of development. As I have gained more knowledge regarding the current philosophy orientations it has come to my attention that there is not a single one that goes along completely with my beliefs regarding education. Through my Service Learning Project and the times I have substituted in the Rock Hill School District, I am cultivating my own teaching philosophy. As of now, it resembles a combination of the social reconstructionist and existentialist philosophies. I feel that students should be encouraged to improve the society they live in, but also, at the same time should be working to individualize themselves. By accomplishing both of these concepts, there will be two benefactors: the student himself and the society as a whole.
