1. Introduction: Personal Responsibility and a Shared Planet
Environmental problems can seem too large for one person to influence, yet collective change begins with the choices that millions of individuals repeat every day. This point is especially relevant for students because school years are a period in which habits, attitudes, and skills are still developing. Environmental choices connect private behaviour with public systems such as transport, waste collection, energy, and food production. This makes the subject relevant not only for examinations or classroom discussion but also for the choices students make outside school.
Environmental problems can seem too large for one person to influence, yet collective change begins with the choices that millions of individuals repeat every day. For example, a student may understand the general rule but only notice its real value when a busy day forces several priorities to compete for attention. Sustainability is strongest when it reduces waste without making daily life unnecessarily difficult. At the same time, it is important to avoid an extreme view.
