Conclusion.
Recommendation 38 of the Australian Law Reform Commission should be adopted, as it is in the interests of the profession and the community for law students to gain a broad and well-developed appreciation of ethical standards and professional responsibility while also gaining practical experience. The importance of appropriate guidance is essential in a productive and successful pro bono scheme. However, it is unlikely that students will undergo an experience detrimental to such a development even without suitable supervision. There are many reasons for students to undertake pro bono work and no sound reasons why they should not. Thus the law faculty should have no reservation in implementing this recommendation.
