Schizophrenia is a chronic and debilitating mental illness. The disease can cause you to withdraw from the people and activities in the world around you and retreat into a world of delusions and fantasies. Schizophrenia is the most common kind of psychosis, which is an impairment of thinking in which your interpretation of reality can be severely abnormal. Schizophrenia causes a slowly progressive deterioration in your ability to function in various roles, especially in your job and personal life. Schizophrenia is one of the most complex and disabling of the major mental illnesses. This is due to the fact that people who suffer from this condition can have a number of different symptoms, symptoms ranging from hallucinations to abnormal expression of emotions.
Signs and symptoms of schizophrenia may include two or more of the following: delusions, prominent hallucinations for much of the day, incoherence, lack of or inappropriate display of emotions, bizarre delusions. Problems or less ability to function in work, in social interactions and with personal hygiene. Continuous signs for at least 6 months and no evidence of a brain tumor or blood vessel disease. …
