In 1997 Baz Luhrmann created the latest successful version of Romeo and Juliet. He attracted his target audience, teenagers, to the film by using different styles of music, young actors and problems that viewers can relate to, thus making the film successful. As a young person in the target audience I think he has effectively achieved his goal. The music from the film had the biggest impact on me, I had a rush of adrenalin and this made me really excited to see the rest of the film.
A sense of seriousness is created immediately, the film begins by showing a dark room with a buzzing television screen there are no lights and this has a dramatic effect. Eventually the only sound that could be heard was that of a news reporter explaining the story, the tone of her voice made me feel that the story she had been investigating was tragic, this created an interest making me want to hear more. I felt this was a very effective way to start because nowadays when you listen to the news most stories are bad and it was reflected in the opening of this film.
<Tab/>Good use is made of the music. Initially the music is in the background, but it grows louder and louder creating anticipation of what is about to happen.
