Ray Kinsella, a central character in Shoeless Joe, shows his dreamy nature that he endures by wanting to build a baseball diamond in his cornfield. He did it because he does what the “voice” tells him to do. The central character follows his dreams and enjoys them a lot. Annie is a simple but brave girl from Iowa. She and Karin, Annie’s and Ray’s daughter believe in Ray. That is why they all can see Ray’s dream. Not all people can follow their dreams so strong and persistent as Ray did. Not all people could build a baseball field in their back yard just because the “voice” tells them to do it. Like it was at the beginning of Shoeless Joe that Ray heard the voice, “I was sitting on the verandah of my farm home in eastern Iowa when a voice very clearly said to me, “If you build it, he will come,” (p. 3) and he listened to this voice and built this ball field, and with this moment one part of his dream came true.…
