Romeo's friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, were walking through the streets of Verona, when they were met by a party of the Capulets with the impetuous Tybalt at their head. This was the same angry Tybalt would have fought with Romeo at Lord Capulet's house. Romeo wished to avoid a quarrel with Tybalt above all men, because he was the kinsman of Juliet.
