In his essay “Resistance to Theory”, Paul de Man states, the resistance to theory means, in fact, a) the resistance to reading. His next two assumptions in answer to this question are that resistance to theory b) is resistance to the introduction of linguistic terminology in aesthetic and historical discourse and also c) resistance to the use of language about language. In order not to enter in long discussions, I will turn the major attention to the first proposition. Why reading?
