Summary.
The Fall celebration in Latvia traditionaly called Miķeļi, when people have already stored all crops, vegetables etc. because Miķeļi is symbolization of winter. Significant part of fall celebration is catching of Jumis, which have many meanings in Latvian traditions. Traditions tend to give back the power of earth that they had taken when they were reaping crops. All work that had been done to make the grain grow and then reaping it is called talkas, because many people joined to make the work easier – it’s some kind of a tradition too. When the harvest is completed Latvians celebrate festival of Apjumības.

Christmas in traditional Latvian culture is the festival to the rebirth of the Sun maiden. Rooms are decorated with traditional decorations. The most popular tradition is mumming. The mumming brings blessing and scares the evil spirits. Another Latvian Christmas tradition is dragging of the Yule log. The decoration of Christmans tree is borrowed from other nations.…
