The story I read and am writing my essay on is the book Hoops by Walter Dean Myers. The reason why I am writing this essay is because I like this is a great book. The book is about a seventeen year old boy named Lonnie, faces a difficult life with the harsh nagging of his mom and trying to become pro at basketball. Later on in this book Lonnie faces a really difficult decision if he wants to throw the game or if he wants to beat the opposing team.
