But there are ways to soften the blow. A contestant can win two awards, Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic. With these two, anybody could say "Well, at least the others like me." or "Wow, that photographer was really good."
The biggest pageant of all is the Miss Universe. This is a part of the Trump organization, in which controversy and attention has been coming in the truckloads. First there was Miss Venezuela 1996, Alicia Macheda who gained about thirty pounds during her reign as Miss Universe. This showed how much pressure there is on every single thing. As a result Miss Universe doesn't need to worry about her weight unless it is a major health problem. Another controversy is Miss Botswana 1999, won the contest but could not host the program to riots in her country. These riots were by the Muslim North who oppose the women in swimsuits and power. Unfortunately the southern part (who is heavily populated by Christians) had to miss out on millions of dollars of revenue in travel and tourism. The program was moved to a more stable place, London, for safety reasons of course. (123india, para. 5)
