We must remember that in the case of laws or decisions made by Union’s exclusive powers, there is little room for national initiative. And on the contrary, if we talk about shared competences and the spheres where non-binding coordination of national policies are accepted, there is a wide margin of manoeuvre left to the national authorities. In my opinion now the European dimension increases at the expense of the national dimension. Although the Member States accept the decrease of their powers to the extent that their interests are better served by common action than by national action, there is still one main drawback - a certain loss of national sovereignty.
Let’s hope that it is worth to sacrifice some of our national sovereignty to live in "the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion, and respect for the environment”.6
