Claudio Zuan (Giovanni) Antonio Monteverdi was born in Cremona in 1567. He was baptized on May 15 of the same year. He was born to Baldassare Monteverdi, who was a barber-surgeon, and Maddalena Zignani, a goldsmith's daughter .
