AS can be understood from the cases above, and the changing need of the employee, and the ongoing purpose of American capitalist business, this legislation has attempted to become a regulating valve in the ongoing stresses between the demand of family and business. While a healthy business cannot function without healthy employees, business also needs to have the employees working in order to function. In the same way, family bread winners cannot raise a family without a stable income. Modern social forces have places many families in the pressure cooker between work, family, and personal needs. In the coming years, hopefully legislation like the FMLA and those who drafted it will understand that they cannot legislate to respond to individual choices, they can only look out for individual rights and allow workers to make the decisions on how to balance work and family on their own.…
