My Dearest Edith,
It is so unfortunate you had to return to Gloucester Manor so soon; it was simply splendid to have you in London, coming along to the jolly picnics and drawing parties. You must agree with me that Sir Helton's Ball was such a success! You looked lovely in your new gown, lilac is so becoming against your raven hair. It seems the gentlemen agreed with me for I noticed your dance card was completely filled before you had completed the quadrille with Mr. Thorny! Your Aunt seemed very pleased when you also danced the waltz with him. I believe you two would make a fine match, do you know he is the nephew of the Duke of Edinburgh?
Oh, my dear Edith, the most wonderful thing has happened! Mr. Barrack proposed! He spoke to me, Edith, very straightforwardly. He told me how dear I was to him, though he had known me so little, and how unhappy he would be if I did not care for him. It was the perfect proposal. I am to be the future Mrs. Barrack; mother and father are beside themselves with joy.
