Why Does Simon's Death Occur, What Effect Does It Have On The Others And Why Is It Important?
The lead up to Simon's death begins with the splitting of the tribe. Some stayed with Ralph, the more responsible and humane but also the original leader and some left their leader to join Jack the hunter, a savage boy who was only interested in his hunting, not in being rescued however was, at the beginning, a more natural leader.
Simon's death began with a huge tropical storm. Ralph taunted Jack by talking about the shelters,
"Going to be a storm," said Ralph, "and you'll have rain like when we dropped here. Who's clever now? Where are your shelters? What are you going to do about that?"
