Assimilation for both groups has been a very hard process. Today aboriginal people make up 1% of the overall population, while making up 20% of the prison population. The life expectancy for aboriginal men is 20.7 years shorter than the life expectancy rate of the average Australian man, while the life expectancy rate for women is 19.6 years shorter than the average Australian woman. The unemployment rate for aboriginal people is approximately three times higher than non-aboriginal people. Even though you can't tell by looking at their stats, aboriginal people are becoming more and more a part of the Australian culture. They manage to maintain their culture, while trying to grasp the culture of the minority group. Native Americans are in the slow process of assimilating as well.…
