These two lifestyles showed contrast between two English cultures of that era. They also have different social cultures. Amanda's being very cosmopolitan and Victor's being quite steady planned, and logical.
This play is very similar to "The Importance of being Ernest" because they both are comical plays which follow the development of two couples. Although unlike "Private Lives", The Importance of being Ernest" has much more characters. This is because "Private Lives" is spread over a very intense couple of days, therefore it is probable that they won't meet anyone else in that time, and so the story is focused on only four main characters, plus a maid, whereas "The Importance of being Ernest" is spread over several weeks, therefore a broader range of characters is needed.
