Social assistance (i.e. means-tests for the elderly and the low-income families) is about 10 percent of their household income. Poor households rely heavily on income provided by the Taiwanese government.
Therefore, as a developed country currently in a boom Australia is perceived as the wealthier country in as aspects of economic growth, the quality of life, environmental quality and Government subsidies in comparison with the developing Taiwan economy that is currently in recession.
