I always figured infertility to be when a couple just couldn't get pregnant at all. Apparently, there's a specific amount of time included. By definition, infertility is the inability of a couple to achieve a pregnancy after twelve months of unprotected intercourse (http://health.yahoo.com/health/encyclopedia/001191/0.html).
