The story of the book is set in the United States, mostly in the states of Georgia and Atlanta. The events in the book happen during the Civil war (1861-1865) and the Reconstruction (1865-1877), and depict the experiences of Scarlett O’Hara’s struggle to be together with the man she loves and still survive the war. It shows the relationship between big plantation owners and Afro-American slaves in the period before the Civil War - how they cope with each other, and from the authors’ view, chaos, that comes in the Southern states of America during the Reconstruction.
The main character of the novel is Scarlett O’Hara. Her father is from Ireland and mother comes from the high society of France. She is not beautiful, although she has features that most people find attractive and charming: her green cat-like eyes and black hair. …
