Individual Effort
While the Hong Kong government facilitates the economic and social restructuring, we, as an individual, should also be proactive in facing the challenges ahead of us. For instance, the government is intended to massively promote tourism in Hong Kong; however, the plan would not work without the quality service support from the people working in the tourism and service sectors. Therefore, rather than blaming the government for not implementing the right policies, we should first focus on improving our personal qualities. It is inevitable that companies will continue to cut cost by laying off redundant staff in the coming years in the face of fierce competition, but we should not be in fear if we have well equipped ourselves and we have been value added to our employers. On the job, we should constantly seek for ways to streamline workflow, so as to improve operational efficiency and contribute to the companies' bottomline. Off the job, we should continue to self-improve ourselves by taking on higher education, improving on language skills and keeping abreast with the latest technological development. Only we can save ourselves from being left behind in the fast moving world, so we better start working on ourselves first.
