Every day the gap between Canadians and Americans grow, even though we are only separated by an imaginary line that can only be seen in full on a map. One only has to look at the chord that was struck across the country with the simple "I am Canadian" rant put out in a beer commercial, several years back. Canadian people from all walks of life swelled with pride when they heard the statement attempting to distinguish ourselves from the Americans. I for one, am proud to not be American, therefore strengthening my identity as a Canadian.
So does Canada in fact have an identity? I contest that it does, for I believe in it. I believe in myself as being a unique individual, but proud to say that I am Canadian. As your own opinion must be found through self discovery, I know that I have already come to terms with mine. Canadians are shaped by our beautiful natural landscape, diverse multicultural society and our separate beliefs and values from our southern neighbours, the United States. Those are three claims that are our to keep.
