Years, even if you upgrade your browser. Already we are seeing databases of many kinds selling or giving away collections of personal data, and this practice will only become more common as the demand for this information grows.
Perhaps the most important challenge facing Internet privacy advocates is to ensure that it sees widespread deployment. The issues include educating users about the need for special privacy protection to restore privacy lost in an online world, building software that is integrated with popular applications, winning over those who fear anonymity, and building systems that meet the needs of real users.
If we can guarantee privacy protection through the laws of mathematics rather than the laws of men and whims of bureaucrats, then we will have made an important contribution to the society. Lets bring privacy to the Internet, and bring the Internet to everyday privacy practices.
