These days there would be a giant feast of one of the plantations, it rotated every year. The slaves would all where the nicest clothes they had and dance and sing. During the holidays Platt was hired by many to play music at parties. They would give him extra and he had earned a good amount of money. With this money he was able to buy luxuries like pipes and tobacco and extra pairs of shoes. He was also promoted to field driver. He become accurate with the whip so he could just graze slaves' backs that way it looked like they were getting whipped when they really weren't. No slaves were aloud to read or write. Part of slavery is to keep the people you want to control uneducated. He met a white man named Bass who was sympathetic to slaves and wanted to help him. This is the first white man that Platt encountered that wanted to help abolish slavery. The fellow slaves were thankful for having Platt as their driver because it saved them a lot of pain. When Platt was rescued the slaves were happy he was going home and also wished they could go with him.…
