Could War with Iraq Be Vietnam II?
"We seem bent upon saving the Vietnamese from Ho Chi Minh, even if we have to kill them and demolish their country to do it.... I do not intend to remain silent in the face of what I regard as a policy of madness which, sooner or later, will envelop my son and American youth by the millions for years to come." George McGovern, speech to U.S. Senate, April 25, 1967.
Would going to war with Iraq be Vietnam all over again? This question is an on going debate among scholars and politicians across the world. To understand the answer to this question we must look at what Vietnam really was, and how it relates to the Iraq situation of today. In the following paper I will take you into the jungles of Vietnam and show you truly why we fought in Vietnam and the results of this war upon our country. Then I will share with you the Iraq situation the United States is facing.
