China’s Capabilities to Become a Superpower in Comparison with United States
Even though China has risen to the second level, it is not ready to become a superpower. To sum up, any effort by China to rise and reach a comparable level to the U.S – will be difficult and requiring a lond period of time. Luckily or unfortunately, having one or two elements of material power that make a state a superpower is insufficient. As I already mentioned before, all the three main capacities (economic, military and technological) are bound together and have a big influence on each other. It does not matter whether China have enough economic capacity to be able to reach the superpower status. Until it does not yet have the technological capacity to do it, it will be still the number two worldwide. On the other hand, China is still a potential superpower. It generates new pressures on the United States.
The 21st century is a century of globalization and changes. The future still keeps a secret what will be the next super powers. The most important thing is that there is a big amount of candidates that prove their rights and power. Anyway the United States should “keep a finger on the pulse” because of the influence of multipolarity.
