Business culture in post-soviet countries has undoubtedly been affected by the period of communism. Although the USSR has collapsed fifteen years ago and communism does not exist in this part of the world, we still can trace many specific features in the society that can be attributed to as heritage from the soviet times. This is because the people who shape the most active part of the society – managers, businessmen and leaders now in the post-soviet countries were born and raised in the soviet times and has a soviet background.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union foreign investments receive increasing attention in developing transition countries, because it is widely seen as catalyst to economic growth and development. Since opening of new markets in 1990’s there has been a lot of interest about this region from potential investors and investment to transition economies have surged after having been blocked for five decades. This is why it was useful to look back in history of this region and see what and how has affected business environment here.
The aim of this report was to find out how business culture in post-soviet countries has been affected by the specific features of the Soviet economy.
To do this, it was necessary to explore the economy of the USSR, find out its specific features and analyze their effect on the business culture in post-Soviet countries.
The first part of this report summarizes fifty years of economic development of the USSR, including such topics as economic planning, forms of property and relations with other countries. The second part is devoted to analysis of the effect of the features discussed preciously on societies and business culture in post-Soviet countries.…
